Measuring only 7 mm x 2 mm the C0720B001 is one of the smallest flat coin vibration motors available.  It is designed for ease of connection to the PCB.   Its uses a "double sided"   FPC  with contact pads facing the PCB  that allow it to be soldered directly to the PCB.    In mass production, a "hot bar soldering" machine may be used to efficiently solder the FPC to the PCB.   Contact us if you would like to use this unique FPC with another one of our coin vibration motors.   It was specifically designed for wearable devices and has won wide acceptance by major industry players in the fitness tracker and medical device markets. As this motor is relatively expensive, we recommend you use this motor only if your design cannot utilize one of our lower priced 8mm or 10mm diameter flat vibration motors. If you require adhesive on the rear of this flat vibration motor, we can supply it with 3M 467 which will add 0.05 mm to the overall thickness of the motor. The C0720B088L coin vibration motor has a unique interconnection method that greatly simplifies mass production.   The contact pads under the vibration motor mate with corresponding PCB mounted, ultra-small Spring Finger Contacts.  These spring contacts are available on tape /reels for easy SMD assembly.   This coin motor is typically mounted in a molded pocket of the device, and held in place by  the supplied double stick tape.  If this motor is too small, we can employ this solution with larger sized motors, however, tooling fees may apply.

The rear of this motor has 3M 467 double stick tape to facilitate mounting.   If you need wire leads, you can solder wires to these contact pads, however the wire must be thin and flexible (UL3302  AWG 32 /34) else the adhesive holding the FPC to the metal base may separate and the FPC lift upward.  If the FPC size or contact arrangement is not suitable for your application we can fabricate a custom flexible circuit as per your design. We currently use Loctite 326 on our production line for this purpose. Unlike this motor, standard coin vibration motor (with brushes) are not noted for their fast rise and fall times and hence are not the best choice for haptic feedback applications. They incorporate a single magnet situated under the motors rotating voice coils / counter weight assembly, at the base of the coin motor. Our engineers recently discovered that by adding a second magnet above the voice coil / counter weight assembly, effectively sandwiching it between both magnets, many of the vibration motors performance characteristics dramatically improved.  Most notable is that this “Double Magnet”  design greatly improved the rise / fall times as well as the G force.  Power consumption is comparable to that of the single magnet design.

At an impressive 2 Grms the VG1040003D, wide band LRA, produces the highest G force / vibration energy of any coin shaped LRA vibration motor. The rise time is a blazing 10 ms, fall time 50ms, makes it one of the best choices for HD haptic feedback applications.  Notably Samsung chose this LRA for use in their  Galaxy Z Flip 3 and  Samsung Galaxy S21  cellphones.   Due to this LRA's wide bandwidth,  you will need to disable the auto-resonance  calibration feature and manually set the driver for the resonant frequency of the LRA.    Besides the popular TI haptic drivers,  Dongwoon Anatech Part # DW7914A    and the  Renesas (formerly Dialog Semiconductor)  DA728x Series Haptic driver IC are also viable options.   A configuration file is available for the DA728x driver.  This device is designed to be mounted in a molded recessed pocket in the products housing. PCB mounted contact springs or pogo pings mate with coin LRA's contacts pads.   PCBA contact springs are made by TE as well as other companies.    If you need wire leads, you can solder wires to these contact pads, however the wire must be thin and flexible (UL3302  AWG 32 /34) else the adhesive holding the FPC to the metal base may separate and the FPC lift upward.   This motor is currently only available in this configuration. Customizations will be considered if the project volume is in excess of 1 million / year.

The device may be driven a few different ways.  It may be driven with an audio signal using an audio amplifier that can source enough current.  We recommend the PAM8403  IC or you can experiment by purchasing a "PA8403 Module" from many sources.  Alternately, a  PWM signal can be generated from a MCU unit, and the signal amplified by a Power Amplifier IC.  And last, it may be driven directly with a Haptic Driver IC that can be programmed to generate a sine wave of various frequencies and amplitudes.  Also available is this Development Kit originally designed for use with Foster Electric device, but may be used with this device.

The VLV101040A  like our coin type LRA's this device generates a vibration force in the Z axis, perpendicular to the face of the device.    It has an exceptionally wide band width of 160 hz allows for drive signals between 140 to 300 hz.    Wide-band width, coupled with fast 10ms rise/40ms fall times,  allows this LRA to generate haptic effects never before possible.   Even faster rise / fall times can be achieved by the use of a Haptic Driver.    Due to this LRA's wide bandwidth , the use of Haptic drivers  that make use of  "auto -resonance" detection will be problematic ( ie  TI).  If using such a driver, you will need to disable the auto-resonance  calibration feature and manually set the driver for the resonant frequency of the LRA.    The  Dongwoon Anatech Part # DW7914A    and  Renesas (formerly Dialog Semiconductor)  DA728x Series Haptic driver IC are also viable options.   A configuration file is available for the DA728x driver.   The LRA's contact pads are designed for use with PCB mounted pogo pins or spring contacts.   If you need wire leads, you can solder wires to these contact pads, however the wire must be thin and flexible (UL3302  AWG 32 /34) else the adhesive holding the FPC to the metal base may separate and the FPC lift upward.

The VLV221007E linear vibration motor / LRA generates 8 Grms  (100 gram sled)  when driven @ 2.35 Vrms.  Possible applications include haptic feedback for gaming, VR & trackpads.  As it is normal for the actual resonant frequency of LRA's to vary +- 10 hz from its rated resonant frequency, to ensure best performance,  it is important to use them with an LRA driver IC that has a closed-loop, auto-resonance tracking mode.   For this LRA we recommend the DA728x series haptic driver by Renesas, as it is the only driver we tested that worked properly in closed-loop, auto-resonance tracking mode.  A Renesas DA728x  Development Board can be purchased here.   In our testing the TI DRV2605L will not pass calibration at the higher rated and over drive clamp voltages, and therefor are unable to drive this LRA at its maximum G force of 8 Grms.  With the TI DRV2605L in closed loop, RTP mode we measured 3.6 Grms.    Custom leads length,  connectorization and custom flexible PCB are available.

The VW0825AB002G brushless BLDC coin vibration motor is ideal for Hi-Rel applications or those with high duty cycles.  For easy of assembly, it features contact pads that are designed to mate with PCB mounted contact springs.   If you need wire leads, you can solder wires to these contact pads, however the wire must be thin and flexible (UL3302  AWG 32 /34) else the adhesive holding the FPC to the metal base may separate and the FPC lift upward.  An driver IC is imbedded inside the motor so an external driver IC is not required.  Apply DC voltage as you would a normal brushed DC motor.   Voltage polarity must be observed or you will damage the internal driver IC.
